Radiative Regimes in Gamma-Ray Bursts and Afterglows
نویسنده
چکیده
We present numerical simulations of Gamma-Ray Bursts arising from external shocks in the impulsive and wind models, including a weak or a strong coupling between electrons and protons plus magnetic elds, and analyze the burst features in each scenario. The dynamics of the ejecta and external medium are followed into the late stages of deceleration, in order to study the hydrodynamics of the remnant and the temporal and spectral evolution of the afterglow. A brief comparison with the optical and radio afterglows of GRB 970228 and GRB 970508 is made. Subject headings: gamma-rays: bursts methods: numerical radiation mechanisms: non-thermal

Early GRB Afterglows from Relativistic Blast Waves in General Radiative Regimes
We present simple analytical expressions for the predicted spectral and temporal behavior of the early afterglow radiation from gamma-ray bursts in radiative regimes intermediate between the adiabatic and the fully radiative solutions of the blastwave hydrodynamic equations. Our expressions are valid as long as the relativistic electrons responsible for the observed synchrotron emission are in ...
متن کاملGRB Progenitors and their environment
The detection of supernova features in the late spectra of several gamma-ray burst afterglows has shown that at least a fraction of long-duration gamma-ray bursts are associated to the final evolutionary stages of massive stars. Such direct observations are impossible for bursts located at redshift beyond z ∼ 0.5 and different methods must be used to understand the nature and properties of thei...
متن کاملOn the “canonical behaviour” of the X-ray afterglows of the Gamma Ray Bursts observed with Swift’s XRT
The “canonical behaviour” of the early X-ray afterglows of long-duration Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) —observed by the X-Ray Telescope of the SWIFT satellite— is precisely the one predicted by the Cannonball model of GRBs.
متن کاملEarly Optical Afterglows from Wind-Type Gamma-Ray Bursts
We study prompt optical emission from reverse shocks in the wind-type gamma-ray bursts. The emission is evaluated in both the thick and thin shell regimes. We discuss the angular time delay effect and the post-shock evolution of the fireball ejecta, which determine the decay index of the prompt optical emission and the duration of the radio flare. We discuss distinct emission signatures of the ...
متن کاملTheoretical Models of Gamma-Ray Bursts
Models of gamma ray bursts are reviewed in the light of recent observations of afterglows which point towards a cosmological origin. The physics of fireball shock models is discussed, with attention to the type of light histories and spectra during the gamma-ray phase. The evolution of the remnants and their afterglows is considered, as well as their implications for our current understanding o...
